Manure injection toolbars are not new to U.S. pork producers, but the Titan 2 from Bazooka Farmstar is one of the widest toolbars on the market with the largest model in the series ringing in at 60 feet wide. It is equipped with 700 series center section and 550 wing gauge wheel flotation tires, to ensure compaction is not compromised. Producers can adjust the manure flow during application from 2,500 to 15,000-plus gallons per acre in conjunction with Phantom injection units the company also produces.

As injection toolbars are nothing new to the swine industry, neither is the potential for trash in the manure pit to clog application ports. Titan 2 has been equipped with Bazooka Farmstar's anti-clog, Flux manifold. It features a new lift assist handle and blockage indicator light that allows operators to recognize blocks in the manifold caused by pit trash or other debris, and quickly clear it of obstructions.

Marcus Davis, equipment specialist at Bazooka Farmstar, said one of the things that producers wanted from previous versions of the Titan Series Toolbar was to have more row units and a larger machine to cover more ground with each pass. Davis said larger flotation tires have been added to the Titan 2 to reduce compaction and counteract the natural weight of a larger toolbar.

Panelist Pork Producer Gregg Hora questioned Davis on the producer feedback from this resulting larger toolbar.

"When it came to the test phases of Titan 2, the main questions we were addressing across the industry was ground conditions, more specifically, will you be able to penetrate the ground in certain conditions?" Davis said.

Even with the heavier toolbar, the new version allowed the applicator to inject manure into the ideal rootzone around turns.

"Times have changed from back then to now," Davis said. "There used to be a lot of picking up on the end rows, backing into it yourself and turning it around while manure flowed on top of the ground … Now, it is great to have the ability to hook up to a wide pull-type toolbar, resulting in less passes throughout the field and more thorough coverage, especially on the end-rows."

Titan 2 comes in widths from 39 feet to 60 feet with unit spacing from 16 inches to 30 inches.
