Pork took center stage at the 2018 Iowa Taste of Elegance. As chefs battled for top honors, the discussion around the food table was about pork.

In 2017, Americans ate the majority of their food outside of the home for the first time in history. Sampling pork dishes at the Iowa Tastes of Elegance, it is no wonder more and more consumers are dining out.  

Twelve Iowa chefs competed for top honors at the 32nd Taste of Elegance. The competition hosted by the Iowa Pork Producers Association kicked off the IPPA annual meeting events along with the Iowa Pork Congress. Each participant was asked to prepare a dish featuring country style ribs. The competing chefs pulled out all the bells and whistles to showcase their culinary talents. Chef Andrew Ungs, Whiskey Road, took top honors with his Peking pork with wasabi mashed and gingered carrots. The People’s Choice award went to Chef Kelly Littlefield from Milk and Honey restaurants.

While the pork was the center of attention, the event was about building relationships by linking Iowa hog farmers with chefs, local business owners and legislators. Click on the gallery to see more from the event.
