The Guinness World Record for Largest Serving of Pulled Pork has been broken again, with the protein going to a good cause.
Smithfield Foods joined with Southern Event and Party, Pleasant’s BBQ, Wildes Tavern and Overtime Sports earlier this year to break the previous record of 2,012 pounds set by Sonny’s BBQ in 2016. In August, the Records Management Team from Guinness World Records officially recognized the attempt, weighing in at 2,390 pounds.
The world’s largest serving of pulled pork, made from Smithfield Fresh Pork Boneless Loins, was then served to Shepherd of the Gulf, #DoMore Pantry and local first responders providing more than 2,000 meals to community members in need.
“It’s truly remarkable to be a part of an event that is a world-record-breaking success, not just for the participants, but for the entire community,” says Kevin Ladd, Southern Event and Party. “We’re grateful for partners like Smithfield Foods, Pleasant’s BBQ, Wildes Tavern and Overtime Sports who helped make this achievement possible. It’s amazing to see the positive impact we can make when we all come together.”
Smithfield’s contribution was part of the company’s Helping Hungry Homes initiative. Since founding the program in 2008, Smithfield has provided more than 100 million servings of protein to food banks, disaster relief efforts and community outreach programs nationwide.
“As a food company, we believe that it is our greatest responsibility to feed people,” says Jonathan Toms, associate manager of charitable initiatives for Smithfield Foods. “Smithfield is honored to be a participant in this Guinness World Record win, not for the title, but for those in need we were able to assist along the way.”
