A national pork processor has bought Quincy Street Inc. a supplier of private label ham products for Grand Rapids, MI,-area grocers Meijer and SpartanNash, and food service provider Gordon Food Service.
Indiana Packers Corp. purchased 100 percent of the stock of the Holland Township, MI,-based ham products producer for an undisclosed amount, the company said in a statement.
“We are excited about the future growth opportunities at Quincy Street,” said Russ Yearwood, president of Indiana Packers, in a statement. “The Quincy Street dedication to producing high-quality pork products and commitment to customer service complement our business strategy and core values. We look forward to realizing the advantages brought by Quincy Street for many years to come.”
The Dephi, IN,-based company, which is a leading pork products producer, is a joint venture established in 1994 by the Japanese-based conglomerates Mitsubishi Corp. and Itoham Foods Inc.
Indiana Packers supplies fresh pork and smoked bacon to the U.S. market as well as to Japan and Mexico.
Quincy Street purchased its pork from Indiana Packers since opening in 1995. Over the years, Indiana Packers was also customer, buying some of the Quincy Street’s processed pork for products it sells under Indiana Kitchen Brand Pork Products.
The Quincy Street plant produces dinner hams, spiral sliced hams, breakfast sausages, deli meats, specialty toppings and cooked boneless pork loins using the latest smokehouse technology to create an old-fashioned natural wood smoked flavor.
The acquisition will help strengthen Indiana Packer’s business, said Jeff Feirick, Indiana Packers’ vice president of corporate planning.
Quincy Street will retain its name, Feirick said. There will be not staff changes other than the departure of Doug Hekman, the company's founder, major shareholder and longtime chief executive officer.
