Pork advertising gets to the root of the matter
Travelers in the Kansas City airport will get the message where real pork originates.
The National Pork Industry Forum takes place in Kansas City, Mo., this week and the National Pork Producers Council does not want travelers to forget where pork comes from.
Pork Forum is the annual delegate meetings for both the NPPC and the National Pork Board, and hundreds of U.S. pork producers will be coming to downtown K.C. Many will drive, but many others will fly in from across the country. Obviously, these pork producers know where pork comes from, but not all travelers coming through the Kansas City airport this week will know that wholesome pork comes from barns and farms spread across this great land.
Unless you've been under a rock, you know that companies are creating plant-based protein and trying to pass it off as pork and beef. Unless it comes from something that has feet, it cannot be called meat. If it originates from something with roots, it cannot be labeled as meat.
So let's review: feet, meat. Roots, not meat.
To help get that point across to travelers coming through the Kansas City airport, the NPPC is displaying the ad shown above in the airport.
Two years ago, Missouri became the first state to mandate that only products from animals can be marketed as meat. With hunger issues around the world, and right here in the United States, I do not have a problem with alternative forms of protein for human consumption, but call them what they are, and that is not meat.
This is the second time that the NPPC has pulled out the ads to get the meat point across, running similar ads in the Des Moines airport right before and during the Iowa Caucus back in January.
Advertising is intended to pique interest, as well start conversations. Hopefully seeing these ads in the K.C. airport will do just that, and there will be plenty of experts flying in, experts who are willing to have that conversation about where real pork comes from.
Remember: feet, meat. Roots, not meat.
