The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the final 2014 incidence rates for non-fatal occupational injuries and illnesses by industry. Meat industry results improved significantly from both 2013 and 2012 levels, reaching a new, all-time industry low of 5.5 cases per 100 full-time workers per year.
According to the North American Meat Institute, the results demonstrate a substantial improvement from 10 years ago, when the number of injuries and illnesses stood at 10.3 cases per 100 full-time workers, and 20 years ago, when the rate was 24.3 cases per 100 workers.
