Celebrating 20 Years of Research

Held in conjunction with the 2012 Saskatchewan Pork Industry Symposium, Prairie Swine Centre has assembled a special program highlighting the impact of 20 years of research on the Canadian pork industry.

The program on Nov. 14, 2012 at the Saskatoon Inn, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan features the original team of research scientists that established Prairie Centre’s near-market and industry focus in 1992.

The program addresses changes in technology that have impacted all of the participants in the pork value chain, specifically areas affecting cost of production, environment, welfare and product quality.

The schedule features:

  • Opening remarks by Lee Whittington, president/CEO, Prairie Swine Centre.

  • Top 10 Developments in Swine Nutrition 1991-2012, John Patience, Iowa State University.

  • Challenging Previous Assumptions in Nutrition: What Lies Ahead, Kees deLange, University of Guelph.

  • The Evolution of Ethology as a Production Science, Harold Gonyou, Prairie Swine Centre.

  • Reaching Further Afield in Engineering Science, Yuanhui Zhang, University of Illinois.

Following closing comments, a reception will be held.
