The Minnesota Pork Board (MPB) donated 6,000 pounds of ground pork to Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization. Minnesota pig farmers are committed to providing safe and nutritious pork for everyone. The two Minnesota-based organizations have worked together to provide hunger relief for more than 10 years.  

"We're incredibly grateful for this partnership with the Minnesota Pork Board as it allows us to continually distribute nutritious, fresh protein," stated Allison O'Toole, Second Harvest Heartland CEO.

The pork donation stems from MPB’s Oink Outing events that took place at community events around the Twin Cities throughout the summer.  For every question a consumer asked at an Oink Outing event regarding pigs, pig farming, or pork, a pound of ground pork was donated.

"We certainly believe in the mission of Second Harvest Heartland and helping to manage food insecurity," said Vince Baack, vice president of the Minnesota Pork Producers Association. "Our organizations are pleased to be able to make a donation to help alleviate hunger in our state and region."

The Minnesota Pork Board invests in promotions that encourage pork consumption, research that answers challenges facing its producers, and education to help pig farmers continuously improve and carry on providing nutritious pork products.
