The AWARRD program funds field-applicable research focused on answering key questions related to porcine respiratory diseases.

The Awards for Advancing Research in Respiratory Disease from Boehringer Ingelheim funds collaborative, field-applicable research focused on answering key questions related to porcine respiratory diseases.

Since the AWARRD program’s inception more than 15 years ago, it has helped advance the industry’s knowledge of and ability to control diseases including porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, porcine circovirus Type 2 and influenza A virus in swine. The program has provided more than $1.3 million in support of the development of less costly, innovative diagnostic testing and sampling processes; identified more effective biosecurity practices; sought to better understand respiratory diseases; and developed risk assessment tools, intervention programs and vaccination strategies.
