Manitoba Pork Council confirms 41 positive operations identified in southeast Manitoba in the 2017 porcine epidemic diarrhea virus outbreak. So far, officials confirmed PEDV on 18 sow operations representing over 54,000 sows, seven nurseries representing just over 126,000 nursery spaces and 16 feeder operations representing just over 99,000 feeder spaces.
Manitoba's Office of the Chief Veterinarian is working closely with Manitoba Pork to provide guidance, support and all of the resources of the veterinary diagnostic laboratory for infected premises, premises at risk within a buffer zone and environmental testing.
Manitoba Pork has implemented a Manitoba Coordinated Disease Response initiative to help those operations within the buffer zones manage their risk. The MCDR coordinator is also sending out short updates when infected premises are identified.
It is important to remember during this outbreak season that following biosecurity protocols is critical to protecting your herd. If you have concerns regarding your herd risk contact your veterinarian to discuss heightened biosecurity protocols or contact the MCDR coordinator.
