On May 25, Manitoba’s Chief Veterinary Officer confirmed positive test results for porcine epidemic diarrhea virus from another finisher operation in southeast Manitoba. This farm is within the same area as the five farms that were previously confirmed positive for PED in early May.
Two new farms in southeast Manitoba, a sow operation and a finisher operation linked by live pig movements, were confirmed positive for PED on May 26. These two farms are outside of the previous 5-kilometer buffer area. A fourth farm, another sow operation and also outside of the original buffer area, was confirmed positive on May 30. In total, there have been nine PED-affected farms confirmed since May 2.
Manitoba Agriculture’s Emergency Operation Centre is continuing to operate and is assisting the affected producers and conducting full disease investigations. All veterinarians with clients within the areas have been made aware of the site locations.
