During this chaotic holiday season, forget the rush to find the right present, decorate the house perfectly or bake an award-winning meal. My wish for you is to appreciate the peace of the barn and perhaps introduce another human to its magical charm.

Was it by accident or by some grand design that the miraculous birth of Jesus happened in the stable? The phrase “born in a barn” takes on whole new meaning if you picture the son of God swaddled in cloth in a manger full of straw surrounded by animals. Suddenly, being accused of being raised in the barn is not such a bad thing, but a meaningful compliment.
If we pause from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives and think about it, God’s connections to animals are no accident. The birth of Jesus was not just about humans, but all creations. Throughout his Word, animals serve as a supportive role from creation to sacrifice to nourishment.
Peoples’ relationship to animals and frankly the land is a spiritual connection from a divine power. Farming and ranching is an act of faith, placing many things in the Higher Power’s control.
For those blessed with the animal caretaker gene, it is easy to see how peaceful, and actually the perfect spot for, the birth of God’s beloved Son is the barn. The barn, as a structure, holds the most memorable times, the deepest thoughts and numerous life lessons.
Despite the challenging days in the barns, the animals serve as therapy for the soul. The warm touch between human and animal can melt the iciest moods. A scratch behind the ear, a nuzzle with a newborn piglet or just being there for a struggling animal forces us to pause and appreciate the little things in life often at the busiest times.
During this chaotic holiday season, forget the rush to find the right present, decorate the house perfectly or bake an award-winning meal. My wish for you is to appreciate the peace of the barn and perhaps introduce another human to its magical charm. The gift of you pausing to be with your family, friends or someone in need is more precious than anything you can wrap. But above all, remember the reason for the season.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and sending warm blessings to you and your family during this holiday season.
