Red River Farm Network News reports that North Dakota State University agricultural economists are partnering with the University of North Dakota’s Energy and Environmental Research Center to study the possibility of utilizing flare gas from the Bakken oil field in western North Dakota to produce anhydrous ammonia. The project is said to be a unique opportunity because flare gas volumes and the demand for nitrogen fertilizer are increasing. Funding for the project comes from the Agricultural Products Utilization Council and the North Dakota Corn Growers Association.
