Exposing young people to the many opportunities within animal agriculture is important to keeping the industry strong, and The Maschhoffs is doing just that as a group of 11 college students was hosted as part of the company’s first-ever Leadership Extern Experience.
This three-day program is designed to help develop young college students’ passion for animal agriculture. As part of the Leadership Extern Experience, the students learned about a number of The Maschhoffs’ disciplines, including genetics, reproductive technology, financial analysis, internet technology, swine production, communications, nutrition science, animal health and leadership development.
“We created this program as a way to bring in talented young students with an interest in animal agriculture so that they could spend a few days learning more about The Maschhoffs and pork production opportunities,” says Rich Hollis, vice president of People Strategy.
In total, 11 students took three days out of their winter break to glean perspective from a number of leaders within The Maschhoffs and tour production facilities. The students who were selected as part of this competitive program were:
Lizzy Bellina, University of Missouri-Columbia
Gunner Gray, Danville Area Community College
Jenna Harvell, Black Hawk College
Mickala Kay, Black Hawk College
Emily Ligntner, Black Hawk College
Sarah Kozusek, Middle Tennessee State University
Peyton Nagel, Kansas State University
Kathleen Smith, Sauk Valley Community College
Ethan Stas, Penn State University
Tyler Triggs, Iowa State University
Whitney Whitaker, Kansas State University
“It’s always invigorating to host talented students at The Maschhoffs,” says Randy Bowman, director of Technical Services. “I’ve been a part of bringing in young people to our organization for a number of years. I’m grateful to be a part of a company that prioritizes teaching and training the next generation of pork leaders.”
