The Swine Science Online program provides students an opportunity to add courses to their undergraduate degree, gain additional knowledge in a subject area or achieve a U.S. Pork Center of Excellence Swine Science Online Industry Certificate.
Whether a student enrolls in one course or several, the pork industry will only benefit with more agricultural individuals specializing in swine.
The wide variety of subjects: basic swine science, management (breeding, gestation, farrowing, nursery and finishing), swine business, health, exports and nutrition to everything in between are taught by leading university instructors who are experts in those subject areas. Iowa State University, North Carolina State University, South Dakota State University and the University of Missouri are the participating universities, with leading instructors from other U.S. universities as well leading the coursework that may be taken by current undergraduate students or current swine producers simply looking for specialized training.
The vision of Swine Science Online is to ensure the pork industry is led and managed by individuals who have broad educational and production experiences which have prepared them for these roles. Swine Science Online teaches scientific principles and management skills involved in pork production for an efficient and sustainable operation. Swine Science Online courses are delivered via distance education to universities across the country through AG IDEA.
The ultimate goal of the Swine Science Online Program is to have more academically trained students entering the pork industry. After completing required and elective courses students will be able to apply for a Swine Science Online Certificate that is administered by the U.S. Pork Center of Excellence.
Courses are available during the spring, summer and fall semesters.
