Former Governor Mitt Romney selected Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as his vice presidential running mate. The Republicans call the selection “bold,” while Democrats call it “risky.” Congressman Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee and is best known for the Ryan budget adopted by the House of Representatives earlier this year. In his budget, “Path to Prosperity,” Ryan proposed that agricultural programs be cut $179.4 billion over 10 years. This included $29.3 billion for commodity programs, $134 billion for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/food stamps) and $16.1 billion unspecified.
