President Barack Obama has nominated Michael Froman to be the new U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).  President Obama commented: “Michael Froman has won the respect of our trading partners around the world.  He has also won a reputation as being an extraordinarily tough negotiator while doing it.”  Froman is respected in both the business and agricultural trade communities.  He worked very closely with the agricultural community during the International Monetary Fund (IMF) crisis during the late ’90s.  Froman currently serves as White House chief international economic affairs adviser.  He was chief of staff to former Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin during the Clinton administration.
