Farm Bill Stakeholder Meetings Scheduled

The United States Department of Agriculture has announced a series of farm bill stakeholder meetings beginning next week.  The purpose of the meetings is to share information with stakeholders concerning the 2014 farm bill implementation process.

Meeting dates and times:

  • March 11, 9:30 am: Local & Regional Food Systems with multiple USDA agencies

  • March 11, 3:00 pm: Natural Resources Conservation Service

  • March 12, 2:00 pm: Research, Education and Economics Mission Area,

  • March 12, 4:00 pm: Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Mission Area

  • March 13, 10:00 am: Food Safety Mission Area

  • March 13, 1:00 pm: Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Animal Welfare Stakeholders by teleconference

  • March 13, 2:00 pm: Rural Economic Development, Rural Development Mission Area

  • March 13, 2:30 pm: Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service General Listening Session by teleconference

  • March 13, 3:30 pm: Energy and the Bioeconomy with multiple USDA agencies

  • March 13, 4:00 pm: Office of Advocacy and Outreach, Room 108-A, Whitten

  • March 17, 1:00 pm: U.S. Forest Service Listening Session by webinar and teleconference

  • March 27, 9:00 am: Joint Farm Service Agency/Risk Management Agency Listening Session, USDA Jefferson Auditorium

Scott Shearer is vice president of the Bockorny Group Inc., a leading bipartisan government affairs consulting firm in Washington, D.C. With more than 30 years experience in government and corporate relations in state and national arenas, he is recognized as a leader in agricultural trade issues, having served as co-chairman of the Agricultural Coalition for U.S.-China Trade and co-chairman of the Agricultural Coalition for Trade Promotion Authority. Scott was instrumental in the passage of China Permanent Normal Trade Relations and TPA. He is past chairman of the USDA-USTR Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Animals and Animal Products and was a member of the USAID Food Security Advisory Committee. Prior to joining the Bockorny Group, Scott served as director of national relations for Farmland Industries Inc., as well as USDA’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional Affairs (1993-96), serving as liaison for the Secretary of Agriculture and the USDA to Congress.
