Two workshops on advanced swine reproductive management are scheduled for next month in Iowa and Nebraska.
The first workshop is June 23 at the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk, NE. The second workshop is June 24 at the Plymouth County Extension Office in LeMars, IA. Registration at both sites begins at 9:30 a.m. and the first session begins at 10 a.m. The final breakout session ends about 3:30 p.m.
The seminars are sponsored by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension, Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) and Iowa Pork Producers Association in cooperation with University of Nebraska Extension and Nebraska Pork Producers Association.
ISU Extension swine program specialist Dave Stender says the seminars are intended for owners, managers or workers in breeding herd operations.
“You’ll learn about current topics and techniques in reproduction management from the best people in the business,” Stender says. “The afternoon breakout sessions allow time to ask specific questions of the presenters.”
In addition to Stender, presenters include University of Illinois swine reproduction specialist Rob Knox, University of Nebraska Extension swine specialist Duane Reese, senior clinician Rodney “Butch” Baker, DVM, ISU’s Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine, IPIC director John Mabry and Todd Stumpf of Danbred.
Disease cleanup strategies, gilt development case studies, quality mating overview and new technology options will be among topics discussed. Some sessions will feature demonstrations of financial modeling spreadsheets and individual and group tracking software.
