Virtual conference offers virtually everything for hog producers

New Product Tour moves to online review with 'Shark Tank'-esque format.

Have we got a deal for you!

National Hog Farmer, along with several industry partners, is ready to bring you a two-day Global Hog Industry Virtual Conference. The deal is that you get two full days of educational and informational webinars May 27-28 for absolutely free. And you don't even have to leave your home or your office.

All that you have to do is register, if you haven't already, and you will receive log-in information to join us. You are more than welcome to join us all day, both days, but we understand everyone is busy, so check out the schedule and pick what interests you. There are certainly going to be many sessions that pique your interest.

Once you check out the full agenda, you will see that we have far too many sessions to mention here, but I will highlight just a couple to whet your appetite.

A special section in the upcoming June issue of National Hog Farmer will highlight the 2020 Global Mega Producer, but the virtual conference gets going at 9:30 a.m. Central Wednesday with a sneak peek at the pork production companies to make this list. National Hog Farmer Content Director Ann Hess unveils this year's top companies. Plus, Jim Long of Genesus, along with Tom Stein of Maximus Systems/Maximum Ag Technologies, provide insight as to the market trends shaping the global hog industry in 2020. Farm broadcaster Max Armstrong will moderate this session.

A multitude of seminars and topics presented and sponsored by a number of swine industry businesses offer information on anything from nutritional needs to swine genetics to animal health. Of course, we'd be remiss if we held a two-day conference this year without mentioning the impact that COVID-19 has had, and quite possibly will continue to have, on the industry. A few sessions will focus on COVID and the way the U.S. pork industry will look in the wake of the pandemic.

For years now, National Hog Farmer has coordinated and hosted the New Product Tour, and 2020 is no different. You will have the chance to listen in between 1-2:30 p.m. May 27 as company representatives will share a brief video on their respective new product. A question-and-answer session will follow, with our selected panel inquiring more about the respective product. Think "Shark Tank," but with products and services for the swine producer. There will be three separate, 25-minute sessions, each one featuring three individual products being reviewed.

Normally I would walk the grounds of World Pork Expo with the judges panel, visiting with the company representatives at their respective booths or displays. Well, as we know these are different times that require different measures. We still want to present some of the latest innovations that companies have created to help you move your operation forward.

Please check out these products at a National Hog Farmer slideshow, and have a say by casting your vote for Producer's Choice award.

Though we can never attempt to replace World Pork Expo, this virtual conference creates the atmosphere of a trade show, complete with an Expo Hall where you can browse to see what participating companies have to offer. The event closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday and 4 p.m. on Thursday.

As I said, we can't even try to replace World Pork Expo, nor can we make you forget about the trials that you face on your farm. But, maybe we can provide you some information to help guide you along this rough trail that we're all traveling.
