National Hog Farmer Sponsors ‘Hogs are Beautiful’ Photo Contest

National Hog Farmer believes all hogs are beautiful, and we think our readers tend to agree. To share our pork industry enthusiasm, we invited readers to submit their favorite photo of their ugliest — or prettiest — pig in June for the first-ever National Hog Farmer “Hogs are Beautiful” Photo Contest. We kicked off the photo contest by selecting what we believe to be our ugliest boar photo from the thousands of photos in the National Hog Farmer photo archive (above). A special edition “Hogs are Beautiful” button was created for distribution at the 2012 World Pork Expo. The buttons disappeared quickly, and then the photo submissions started to arrive. Just under 100 pictures of much-beloved pigs were submitted for the contest. Talented, pig-friendly photographer captured images of their favorite pigs, pigs interacting with other pigs, pigs enjoying time with their people, 4-H pigs, artistic pigs, and pigs that are just plain charismatic.

Because of the great response to the contest, the National Hog Farmer staff decided to extend the voting process into July. The winners of the “Ugliest Pig” and “Prettiest Pig” categories will be announced on Friday, July 20. View an online photo gallery of all of the pigs at http://nationalhogfarmer.com.
