A web site providing a resource for animal handling in meat plants has been launched by the American Meat Institute (AMI).
The site includes the AMI Foundation’s Recommended Animal Handling Guidelines and Audit Guide for 2005 written by leading animal welfare expert Temple Grandin of Colorado State University.
The guide can be downloaded for free at www.animalhandling.org and includes AMI Foundation audit forms for cattle and calves, pigs and sheep.
The new web site also includes sections on animal welfare auditing, animal handling training materials and animal welfare vs. animal rights.
