The University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Pork Producers Association (MPPA) are teaming up on a pilot program to provide employee pork production training.
Hands-on classroom sessions will cover swine reproduction, featuring educational materials developed by the university and the National Pork Board, says interim program coordinator Gene Tinker of the Southern Research and Outreach Center at Waseca. Enrollment is limited to 20.
The training runs the afternoons of July 10, 17, 24 and 31 at the Best Western motel, North Mankato, MN.
In the second part of the program, held in Waseca on Aug. 5 and 19, the class will practice skills in heat detection, artificial insemination and pregnancy detection.
If successful, the model program will expand to cover other areas of pork production.
