Respected Veterinarian Hurd Provides New Blog to Address Meat Industry Issues

Scott Hurd, DVM, is launching a new blog at the Meathingplace.com Web site. According to Meatingplace.com, “The Gentle Vet” blog will be an outlet from which Hurd will provide insight pertaining to medical and animal welfare issues and myths affecting the meat processing industry.

In his first blog post Hurd states, “As veterinarians, we take an oath. That oath includes at least four core elements which are relevant to readers of Meatingplace. I solemnly swore to use my scientific knowledge for the benefit of society through:The protection of animal health and welfare; The prevention and relief of animal suffering; The conservation of animal resources and the promotion of public health.”

Hurd says his goal for the new blog is to provide medical, animal welfare, and public health perspectives on many of the issues in meat production.  His first blog post deals with the important place veterinarians hold in society. Hurd relates, “As veterinarians, it is our duty to prevent animal suffering and promote public health, not only as a feel good oath but also as the law.”
