Farm Progress America, September 9, 2022

Max Armstrong offers news about work on the next farm bill with insight from the ranking minority member of the House Ag Committee.

Max Armstrong shares insights from Glenn “G.T.” Thompson, R-Penn., the ranking minority member on the House Agriculture Committee. Thompson says he is focused on the next farm bill. He shared there are three options for the bill:

  • let it expire, which is not really an option, Thompson says, since it would return agriculture to the Dust Bowl policies.
  • do a short-term extension, which has happened in the past.
  • and the final is the “do our job” Thompson says.

Thompson says the House Ag Committee is 2.5 years behind on the legislative oversight on the last farm bill. He also shared some other concerns about the process.

Max Armstrong's Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Max Armstrong, veteran farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
