More Soybean and Less Corn Acres

In the United States Department of Agriculture’s latest Acreage Report an estimated record high 84.8 million acres of soybeans were planted this year, up 11 percent from last year. Corn acres planted is estimated at 91.6 million acres, down 4 percent from last year. This is the lowest corn planted acreage in the United States since 2010, but still the fifth largest since 1944.

This year 94 percent of all soybean acres planted and 93 percent of all corn acres planted are biotech varieties. The USDA surveyed 71,000 producers the first two weeks of June for this report.
