Kansas is known for its golden wheat fields and cattle grazing among the Flint Hills. So, pig farming isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when discussing agriculture in the Sunshine State. Yet, more than 50 years ago Kansas State University made a commitment to hosting a swine day, featuring research to educate the industry along with the students.
Each year since the first swine day, the K-State swine team shares knowledge about swine research. While many changes have occurred since 1968, K-state’s commitment to practical research and teaching the industry, in addition to the students, has not. “Our job is to serve students and the industry we are aligned with,” notes Ken Odde, K-State Animal Science and Industry department head.
This week, K-State staff and graduate students presented their recent research efforts. A few are showcased in this gallery.
