Administration Opposes Ag Appropriations Bill
The Obama Administration announced its strong opposition to H.R. 5973, The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2013.” The White House’s Statement of Administration Policy said, the bill “imposes harmful cuts in rural economic development, renewable energy development, nutrition programs, food safety and international food aid. Investing in these areas is critical to the nation’s economic growth, security and global competitiveness. The administration also strongly objects to the inclusion of any ideological and political provisions that are beyond the scope of funding legislation.” H.R. 5973 has passed the House Appropriations Committee and is expected to be considered by the House of Representatives in July after the committee marks up its 2012 Farm Bill on July 11.
