“The story of pork production in America offers a fascinating look at how modern livestock production has evolved,” says Chris Novak, CEO of the National Pork Board. “While the economies of scale are unlike those of past decades, the commitment of today’s pork producers remains unchanged – to provide their communities and the world with safe, wholesome and sustainable sources of high-quality pork.”

Quick Facts offers a wealth of resources including:

  • The history of pork

  • Updates on pork production and the environment (including manure and nutrient management, water quality and odor management)

  • Pork safety, including food safety and public health issues, such as antibiotic resistance

  • Statistics on the number of U.S. hog operations, market share, exports and more.

“History will record 2011 as a good year for pork producers,” says Steve Meyer, president of Paragon Economics and a Pork Checkoff consultant who helped compile the information in the Pork Stats section. “The primary drivers of higher domestic hog prices were good domestic pork demand and U.S. pork exports, which set a new record at nearly 1.8 million metric tons.”

Available at www.pork.org,  the 2012 Quick Facts includes a searchable format. Quick Facts is an excellence resource for pork producers, Operation Main Street speakers, the media, educators, students and the general public, Novak says.
