Pork Industry Scholarships Again Offered by NPPC

 

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is again offering a scholarship program to assist young adults in agriculture.

The Lois Britt Memorial Scholarship Program provides four, $2,500 scholarships for students who intend to pursue a career in the pork industry. The scholarships are directed at undergraduate students in a two-year swine program or a four-year college of agriculture.

Eligible candidates must write a brief letter indicating what role he or she sees themselves playing in the pork industry after graduation. They must also submit an essay of 750 words or less describing an issue confronting the pork industry today or in the future and a solution.

Obtain two letters of reference from current or former professors or industry professionals along with a cover sheet including your name, complete mailing address with telephone and e-mail address, school name, year in school, permanent mailing address and telephone number and social security number.

Include the above items in a single envelope and send to National Pork Producers Council, Attn: Craig Boelling, Box 10383, Des Moines, IA 50306-9960 or e-mail to [email protected]. All entries must be postmarked by Jan. 20, 2012.

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) will administer the program, read the essays and select the winners. Essays will be judged on the basis of clarity or expression, persuasiveness and originality and relevance of topic.

Winners will be announced at the Pork Industry Forum in Denver, CO, March 1-3, 2012.  The NPPC reserves the right to publish any or parts of the essays submitted.
