Dow AgroSciences announces that federal registration has been approved for INSTINCT nitrogen (N) stabilizer for use with liquid manure. INSTINCT protects nitrogen from liquid manure applications at the corn root zone, optimizing the yield potential of corn. “INSTINCT is proven technology in an innovative, encapsulated formulation from Dow AgroSciences, the leader in N stabilization for more than 35 years,” says Andrew Simeonidis, senior marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences. “INSTINCT gives growers confidence that they are effectively protecting their liquid manure applications at the plant root zone.” INSTINCT keeps N available to corn during key yield-determining growth stages. Studies also show that nitrapyrin, the active ingredient in INSTINCT, optimizes the yield potential of corn by increasing grain protein, improving standability, reducing the risk of stalk rot and enabling faster crop drydown. On-farm yield trials in Iowa showed that fields treated with INSTINCT outyielded nontreated fields by an average of 5 bu./acre. The nitrogen stabilizer benefits the environment by reducing N leaching into groundwater and reducing denitrification, the escape of N into the atmosphere. “In other words, INSTINCT keeps N where it belongs — in the soil,” says Chris Berry, market development specialist with Dow AgroSciences.
