Dow AgroSciences announces that federal registration has been approved for INSTINCT nitrogen (N) stabilizer for use with liquid manure. INSTINCT protects nitrogen from liquid manure applications at the corn root zone, optimizing the yield potential of corn. “INSTINCT is proven technology in an innovative, encapsulated formulation from Dow AgroSciences, the leader in N stabilization for more than 35 years,” says Andrew Simeonidis, senior marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences. “INSTINCT gives growers confidence that they are effectively protecting their liquid manure applications at the plant root zone.” INSTINCT keeps N available to corn during key yield-determining growth stages. Studies also show that nitrapyrin, the active ingredient in INSTINCT, optimizes the yield potential of corn by increasing grain protein, improving standability, reducing the risk of stalk rot and enabling faster crop drydown. On-farm yield trials in Iowa showed that fields treated with INSTINCT outyielded nontreated fields by an average of 5 bu./acre. The nitrogen stabilizer benefits the environment by reducing N leaching into groundwater and reducing denitrification, the escape of N into the atmosphere. “In other words, INSTINCT keeps N where it belongs — in the soil,” says Chris Berry, market development specialist with Dow AgroSciences. Because it is an encapsulated product, INSTINCT can remain on the soil surface for up to 10 days, giving growers maximum flexibility in application timing. Grinder Mixer
Grinder Mixer
Frontier Equipment introduces the GX1117 Grinder Mixer designed to help producers save time, money and effort when they mix their own livestock feed. “Frontier's GX1117 Grinder Mixer makes quick work of feeding chores and helps customers improve their bottom line,” says Michael Horrell, Frontier marketing manager. “The new grinder mixer features a self-contained hydraulic system to drive all of the feeding attachments and unloading mechanisms. This eliminates the need for drive belts, chains and gear clusters that could possibly wear out over time, and helps save customers money and lowers their cost of ownership,” Horrell adds. The GX1117 features a 14-in. mixing auger and can be equipped with an optional weigh scale to ensure the feed is consistently and accurately mixed every time. “The grinder mixer's 135-bu. capacity allows customers to mix fewer loads to feed their livestock. Plus, the GX1117 makes it easy for customers to load feeders or bins, too, thanks to its large unloading auger that swings up to 300 degrees and is controlled from the tractor's operator station,” he says. There are two electronic scale options. The grinder mixer comes with a 21-in.-wide, PTO-driven hammer mill and an eight-section, banded v-belt for a positive drive. A quick-release pin lets the operator disengage the mill when not in use. Frontier mixers are sold exclusively by John Deere dealers. For more information, visit www.johndeere.com.
Service Improves Use of DDGS
Service Improves Use of DDGS
Illuminate Services package from Value-Added Science and Technologies (VAST) helps achieve more effective utilization of dried distiller's grains with solubles (DDGS). Illuminate Services can improve the quality of diets by locating and using high-quality DDGS sources and reducing diet cost by using more DDGS in diets to fully capitalize on the available nutrients. “We are pleased to offer this exciting new service to pork producers at a time when many producers are in need of lower feed costs,” says Steve Weiss, president of VAST. “The extended period of poor industry profitability has placed many producers under financial stress. Using Illuminate Services will help producers reduce feed cost while maintaining desired pig performance,” he says. “Our experience has shown that using Illuminate Services nutrient loadings will often save over $10/ton of complete feed and $3/pig marketed,” says Chad Hagen, VAST senior vice president.
