The board of directors of American Farmland Trust (AFT) has unanimously elected John Hardin, Jr., Danville, IN, to serve a three-year term as director.
John Hardin owns Hardin Farms, a grain and hog operation west of Indianapolis. The farm includes corn and soybeans and the first pork operation in Indiana to qualify for the Certified Livestock Farm Program. That initiative certifies good practices and recordkeeping for animal welfare, environmental stewardship, food safety, biosecurity and neighbor relations.
Hardin has served as a member of the Food Security Advisory Committee to U.S. Aid for International Development of USDA, is past president of the National Pork Producers Council and past president of the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
Hardin holds a degree in agricultural economics from Purdue University; he currently serves as vice chair of the school’s board of trustees.
