Randall Prather with the University of Missouri created a lot of interest with his presentation that a PRRS-resistant pig had been bred through gene-editing research that isolated the CD163 protein. Prather calls CD163 "a Gatekeeper," adding "you block it, you block infection."
Pigs resulting from the research done in coordination with the University of Missouri, Kansas State University and Genus plc showed no apparent phenotype change.
