The National Pork Producers Council, Massachusetts Farm Bureau and National Pork Board teamed up to defeat proposed legislation opposing the use of gestation crates in Massachusetts.
The proposal could have resulted in fines or imprisonment for anyone who “confines or tethers a pregnant pig on a farm in a manner that prevents the pig from turning around freely.”
The proposed bill also could have resulted in a ban on gestation stalls.
