Pork Safety Program Launched

A new CD/DVD-based Pork Production Safety Systems program has been released by the National Pork Board.

“Swine handling is an area where many accidents occur each year, for example, so the materials offer tips on how to protect yourself, especially around breeding stock,” says Liz Wagstrom, DVM, director of Veterinary Science for the Pork Board.

Materials provide a guide to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, information on providing a safe workplace, a workbook for use in training and a template to produce a customized worker safety employee manual complete with a variety of forms.

More safety materials will be released at a later date, including a Spanish version. “OSHA continues to talk about increasing safety regulations in agriculture, including on-farm inspections,” reports Wagstrom. “The checkoff’s new safety materials can help you meet OSHA’s safety standards.”
