The Illinois Pork Producers Association State Ambassador Intern serves as a representative of the association and the pork industry. The chosen individual will hold the title of state ambassador for a full year and will work from the Springfield office during the summer of their term (May - August). 
 
Main duties of the intern include managing the birthing center during the 2023 Illinois State Fair (August 10-20), attending Summer Ag Institutes for teachers to present about pork, attend the annual youth leadership summer trip, and various other events throughout the summer. The internship is education and communication focused.
 
The 2023 intern will be paid a three-month stipend, totaling $5,500, plus all traveling expenses. Upon completion of the internship, they will also earn a $2,500 scholarship paid directly to the school. Start date will depend on the student's school schedule, and end date will be after the conclusion of the 2023 IL State Fair.
 
Qualifications:
•    Must be an Illinois resident between the ages of 18 and 23 (Must be age 18 by Jan 1, 2022. Undergraduate and graduate students may apply. Note that payment is only provided via scholarship, directly to the institution.).
•    Must have a strong background in animal husbandry. 
•    Must exhibit strong communication, organization and leadership skills.
•    Must exhibit a genuine interest in the Illinois pork industry and be able to speak on behalf of it.
•    Recommended that he/she has attended Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute (Previously IPLI. Will get to attend on behalf of their internship).
•    Must be a member (or become a member) of the Illinois Pork Producers Association.
•    Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to out-of-state training and functions.
•    May only serve one year.

Meet the 2022 IL Pork Ambassador: Annie Johnson
Annie Johnson is currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin Platteville, studying agricultural education with a technology emphasis. Johnson had a small herd of purebred Duroc pigs she bred, raised and showed with 4H and FFA.

She was involved in the Henry County Pork Producers as a youth ambassador. She was dedicated to the National FFA Organization and held several leadership positions at varying levels. These commitments helped broaden her perspective on what a leader is and improve her communication skills.

On campus,Johnson is involved in CERES Women's Agricultural Fraternity, the Agriculture Education Society and plans to join the Collegiate Farm Bureau. Being active in these organizations allows Johnson to make new connections and strengthen her passions with like-minded individuals.
