Farrowing Management Course

The University of Minnesota Extension Service and the Minnesota Pork Board are sponsoring a two-day intensive workshop on farrowing management.

The course will be conducted at the University of Minnesota Southern Research and Outreach Center in Waseca, MN from noon to 9 p.m., Feb. 10 and from 8 a.m. to noon, Feb. 11.

“Caring for the sow and her litter continues to be one of the most challenging areas in pork production,” says Mark Whitney, Extension swine educator.

Course topics include prefarrowing management, the farrowing process, managing the sow during lactation, piglet management, disease prevention and control and swine welfare. Numerous hands-on activities are planned to maximize student learning.

Instructors include Sam Baidoo, John Deen, DVM and Mark Whitney, all from the University of Minnesota and Tom Wetzell, DVM, South Central Veterinary Associates, Wells, MN.

Program cost is $100 and includes handouts, lunch, instructor fees and biosecurity clothing for hands-on training sessions.
