An introduction to swine reproduction will be presented in both English and Spanish at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield on June 11.
Basic anatomy and physiology, techniques for detecting estrus, semen collection, artificial insemination and using reproductive records will be presented at the program.
The program will also focus on pig welfare, the farrowing process, methods of inducing farrowing ,and management intervention for keeping pigs alive.
Speakers include swine reproductive specialists Tim Safranski, University of Missouri; and Rob Knox, University of Illinois. Stan Curtis, University of Illinois, shares knowledge on improving animal welfare.
