The United States Animal Health Association Committee on Livestock Identification (ID) has passed a resolution directing USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to advance a national ID system.

The resolution calls for establishing a structure consisting of federal and state officials and industry representatives. The group is to use the National Institute for Animal Agriculture’s Task Force Work Plan as a guide.

The structure is to be established prior to Jan. 30, 2003.

Entities will focus on a uniform premises ID system, a uniform, nationally recognizable numbering system for individual animals, and a similar system for a lot or group of animals.
