China imposes 25% tariff on pork. Here are some of the powerful words from America’s pig farmers about the current trade action.

China’s imposing tariffs on $3 billion worth of U.S. imports including pork, counteracting the Trump’s administration’s move to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports was not welcome news for America’s pig farmers last week.

U.S. hog farmers, along with fruit and nut growers, are currently taking one for team agriculture, while soybean farmers are holding their breath that China’s next round of retaliation isn’t aimed at them.

Monday, President Donald Trump says farmers and ranchers will be better off in the long run. While he acknowledges it was not nice of China to pick on U.S. agriculture, he credits farmers  for being “great patriots.”

The USDA said that it would protect the U.S. farming industry should China impose tariffs on products including beef, pork and soybeans, among other commodities. But the USDA declined to go into detail on how it would protect the industry, saying it could not risk giving China a chance to counter its plans.

As the news broke across the country, mainstream media reached out to America’s pig farmers. They answered the call to speak up. Here are some of the powerful words from America’s pig farmers about the current trade action.
