Senate COOL hearing

The Senate Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing this Thursday on country-of-origin labeling and trade retaliation: what is at stake for America’s farmers, ranchers, businesses and consumers? Last week, the World Trade Organization Dispute Settlement Body reviewed Canada’s request for authorization to retaliate against the United States in the amount $2.5 billion. The United States rejected the amount requested by Canada. The DSB will now refer the issue to arbitration which will be for 60 days. Mexico’s request of $713 million for retaliation will be considered by the DSB on June 29.
