Congress reconvenes this week after a two-week spring recess. There are a number of items on the table for Congress to consider before its Memorial Day recess. The House and Senate Appropriations Committees will continue moving forward on a number of fiscal year 2016 appropriations bills.
The House Energy and Water FY ’16 appropriations bill will be marked-up this week and will contain language to forestall the Water of the U.S. rule. The Senate Agriculture Committee is planning a hearing on the opportunities and challenges with trade and Cuba on May 21. The House Agriculture Committee will be reviewing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Indications are that Congress may soon be considering Trade Promotion Authority which is critical for moving forward on the Trans Pacific Partnership trade negotiations.Â
