Companies starting to label for GMO while Senate tries to find a solution

With the looming July 1 Vermont genetically modified organism labeling deadline, some major food companies have announced they will begin labeling their products. So far General Mills Inc., Mars Inc., Kellogg Co. and Campbell Soup Co. have announced they will begin labeling.

Mars, Kellogg, and Campbell Soup have indicated they still plan to use GMO products. Some of these companies use both GMO and non-GMO ingredients in their products.

Legislation to preempt state GMO labeling laws stalled in the Senate prior to the Easter recess. Efforts are continuing to find a compromise that the Senate can consider when it returns the first week of April.
