The Canadian province of Manitoba is enacting an updated animal diseases law that will permit the government to require disease control and biosecurity measures on farms.
Revised rules are to take effect this fall, says Allan Preston, director of Manitoba Agriculture and Food's Veterinary Services Branch.
The rules will shore up control of animal movement and establish quarantine zones. It will also ensure all farms conform to biosecurity rules to prevent a foreign animal disease outbreak.
