A $78.5 billion agricultural appropriations bill has been approved by Congress and President Clinton.
It includes $5.9 million for mandatory price reporting, $1.3 million for a new research program into hog cholera and $9 million for a 10-year, $380-million renovation of the animal research and diagnostic facility in Ames, IA.
It also includes $10.2 million to improve the foreign animal disease research center at Plum Island, NY, $4 million for the pseudorabies eradication effort and $2.9 million for the National Animal Health Emergency Management Systems, a joint effort to respond to a foreign animal disease outbreak.
