The Farm Progress livestock team is excited to announce a partnership with Dr. Dan Thomson, host of “DocTalk” and third-generation bovine veterinarian from Clearfield, Iowa, for the launch of “ONE Health Live.” The new video podcast series that will address issues in animal agriculture through the One Health lens.

This first-of-its-kind industry approach will have a combined focus on animal, human and environmental health and will help those across the food production system better understand the issues from a science-based perspective.

“There is a definite place for balance in the important discussions being had within and around the animal agriculture sector,” said Sarah Muirhead, Brand Management Director - Livestock for Farm Progress. “Dr. Thomson is the one that can most effectively drive that conversation, addressing the issues in a way that best resonates with livestock producers, agribusiness decision-makers and those in the consumer food sector. We look forward to working with Dr. Thomson on ‘ONE Health Live’ as we strive together to move all parts of the food system forward.”

As he does with his weekly “DocTalk” TV show on RFD-TV, Thomson will bring his passion for veterinary medicine, his knowledge of animal agriculture and his down-to-earth sense of humor to “ONE Health Live.”

“The Farm Progress livestock team, along with its Feedstuffs, BEEF and National Hog Farmer titles, is a perfect partnership in which to host our new ‘ONE Health Live’ video podcast,” said Thomson. “I’m excited to work with an industry-leading team to create a platform where the critical discussions around livestock and poultry production, food systems in general, policy and more can happen.”

Thomson is currently a feedlot veterinarian and chief executive officer with Production Animal Consultation (PAC). PAC provides veterinary care for 30% of the cattle on feed in the U.S.

Thomson previously was a professor at Iowa State University and Kansas State University. His research program has been granted more than $36.3 million, resulting in over 100 peer-reviewed publications on cattle health. Dan has delivered nearly a thousand invited talks on beef supply chain issues, cattle production and  bovine medicine globally.

Thomson’s consulting is actively engaged with beef producers, packers and retailers globally. His feedlot clients operate in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. He works routinely with Cargill, JBS, Tyson and National Beef on beef supply chain issues. Thomson also serves as an advisor for McDonald’s Corp., chairs the Animal Welfare Committee of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, is lead counsel for Dine Brands and serves on the Animal Welfare Advisory Board of Tyson Fresh Meats.
