USDA Plans to Hold Disease Traceback Sessions

Last February, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it was developing plans for a new, flexible framework for animal disease traceability. The move placed the authority of animals moving interstate under state jurisdiction.

USDA held a forum with states in March to discuss how to create this framework and gather ways to achieve traceability.

Upcoming public meetings hosted by USDA will discuss animal disease traceability more fully and share information from the meeting with states with industry representatives. USDA also hopes to obtain feedback on the approaches that were discussed in outlining the regulatory framework.
Meeting dates and locations are as follows:

  • May 11, 2010, Holiday Inn Kansas City – SE Waterpark, 9103 E. 39th St., Kansas City, MO 64133, and

  • May 13, 2010, USDA Center at Riverside, 4700 River Road, Riverdale, MD 20737.

Both meetings will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Doors will open at 7 a.m. There is a $4 charge for parking at the Riverdale facility.
