U.S. Corn Acreage Up for Fifth Straight Year

According to USDA’s latest acreage report, U.S. farmers planted 97.4 million acres of corn, which is up over 2012. This is the highest acreage planted to corn since 1936 and is the fifth year in a row of increased corn acreage.

Planted soybean acreage is estimated at a record high 77.7 million acres, up 1% over last year. There were 56.5 million acres of wheat planted, also 1% higher than 2012. Cotton acreage is estimated at 10.3 million acres, 17% below last year’s planted acres.
