Mike Pearson takes a look at the bans many states have started against cultivated meat including the one in Florida.

Several state legislators have been working to ban cell cultivated meat.

In July in Florida, the state ban was challenged in court.

The Florida ban on cell cultivated meat was the first to go into effect in the country.

Iowa, Nebraska, Texas and Missouri have passed or are considering measures to ban the cell cultivated meat.

The laws vary in scope but are aimed at protecting farms.

The court challenge in Florida was brought by Berkeley based Upside Foods. The court documents contend it violated the federal law and is unconstitutional.

However, a judge ruled in favor of the state and the ban stands.

The constitutionality of the ban remains unsolved. The outcome of the case could set a precedent for other states when it comes to banning cell cultivated meat.

Those in favor of the ban say the cell cultured meat threatens the livelihood of livestock farms.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
