Mike Pearson takes a look at the withdrawal of the California bill designed to cut emissions as a result of diesel trucks.

California has withdrawn it's request for the federal government approval to withdraw the tighter emissions proposed on diesel powered trucks and trains.

The decision came last week as Trump gets ready to become president who has historically pushed back on the state regulations.

California Air Resources Board or CARB has been set on taking a controversial set of rules that would have included the Advance Clean Fleets Rule. The rule would have phased out diesel powered vehicles by 2036.

Large trucking fleets would have had to transition to electric or hydrogen powered vehicles by 2042.

Older locomotive will require that engines 23 years old and older are to be retired or replaced by zero emissions motor by 2040.

CARB Chair Laine Randolph said leaving the proposal in emissions could end in an even bigger problem. Leaving waivers in limbo could end in reversal or worse.

The California Trucking Association argues the electric or hydrogen trucks are not made for long hauls.

This change in the law is a welcome sign of relief for trucking companies and farmers.
